IC 4592, also known as the Blue Horsehead Nebula, is a reflection nebula in the constellation Scorpius. The nebula is illuminated by the light of nearby hot stars, particularly Nu Scorpii, which is scattered by fine dust particles within the cloud, giving it its characteristic blue color.
The Blue Horsehead Nebula is part of the extended molecular cloud complex in this region and is located near the Rho Ophiuchi molecular cloud. Its shape resembles the outline of a horse’s head, which gives the nebula its name. The nebula is approximately 400 light-years away from Earth.
